Western Colorado University invites applications for a tenure-track position in theatre at the rank of assistant professor.
Western's Theatre and Performance Studies Emphasis is housed in the Communication Arts program, which has approximately 70 majors and 40 minors. Communication Arts offers emphases in Theatre, Film Studies, and Strategic Communication, and often our students take courses in more than one area, benefiting from the curricular and co-curricular connections within. The student-based Western Theatre Company offers an annual run of 4-6 productions, involving 80-100 students and community members.
Duties:Teaching responsibilities include courses at all levels of theatre like acting, directing, design, textual analysis, theatre history, dramatic literature courses, as well as (possibly) program "nucleus" courses such as visual communication, narrative theory and semiotics. Also expected is the teaching of GE courses related to theatre, speech and academic writing. Responsibilities include teaching 24 semester credits per year, directing at least one production a year, serving as Director of Theatre, advising 10-20 theatre/COM majors, service to the university, curriculum development, and continued professional development.
Qualifications:MFA or Ph.D. is required in Theatre or closely related field, a minimum of one year experience as university level instructor of theatre courses, and one year professional experience as actor or director. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in advising student-based performance groups, a broad knowledge of acting and directing techniques, demonstrated excellence at university-level teaching, the ability to teach online courses, experience with student recruitment and program building, and active participation in related professional organization(s) such as the American College Theater Festival (ACTF).
Additional Application Information:SALARY: $49,000 - $53,000 depending on experience. Benefits include an employee/employer shared contribution retirement plan, life and health insurance, and dependent tuition reduction benefits, after one year of employment

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
